Ramadhan (Arabic: رمضان)

Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is also known as the month of fasting, as it is in this month that Muslims observe the 'fast' from dawn until sunset, thus completing one of the five pillars of Islam.

[edit] Practices during Ramadan

There are some variations regarding the time in which Ramadhan's fasting takes place for different Muslims around the world. Since the festival is linked to the lunar calendar and the new moon is not in the same state at the same time globally, it would depend on which lunar sighting that individual recognizes. Everyday during the month of Ramadhan, Muslims around the world break their fast when the fourth prayer of the day, Maghrib, is due.

[edit] The three parts of the month of Ramadhan

These parts are called 'Ashara which means of ten days or about one third of the month.

These are named as:

Rahmah: which means mercy of God.

Maghfirat which means forgiveness of God.

Najat which means salvation or going to heaven.
